Parisian soft black and white

The ever faithful monochrome has always been a popular choice, both on the catwalk and within the interior.  When executed correctly, black and white décor can be elegant, sophisticated and full of character.  It has always been a trusted go-to look for fashion, and is beginning to become the same for interior design.

This new version of the trend sees a shift from harsh black against stark white to more subtle, softer tones, think beautiful Parisian apartment.  Blacks are leaning towards deep greys which are much more inviting and soothing, whilst still chic and edgy.

The Parisian soft black and white trend has been evolving over recent years and it continues to grow in popularity.  It is popular because of its timeless quality and suitability to any style of house, whether that is a stylish New York style loft apartment, quaint Victorian terrace or new build.

It is a simple and cost effective style to go for in the home.  Pair up white emulsion walls with patterns, textures and ‘in-between’ shades such as greys and off whites or if you are feeling bold why not paint one wall in a shade of grey.  Dark, moody walls are the perfect backdrop for light coloured Parisian style artwork, picture frames and accessories to complete the look.   

Accents of colour, especially on trend pastels, also work well with black, grey and white for the Parisian look.  Pastel colours emerged in the 50’s and 60’s coupled with bold black and striking contrasting colours to make a powerful design statement. In today’s interiors pastels are back and in a big way!
