Fabulous Fades - The Ombre effect

The word Ombre comes directly from the French word 'ombrer' which means to shade. The Ombre trend shows vibrant colours shading in to much lighter tones, or in some circumstances blending in to a different colour all together, think tie-die chic!  It is currently becoming more popular within the interior design world, having been around in fashion, and more recently hair styling, for a while now.

Ombre can be used in a variety of ways throughout the home; statement gradient walls, dipped furniture, funky lighting, throws, cushions, the list is endless.  This versatile style can appear in any room throughout the home; bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, dining and living areas.  Any colour can be used so it can be easily incorporated in to any scheme.  It works brilliantly with tiles too, as can be seen in some of the images below.  It’s a fun and stylish trend which brings a laid-back and casual feel to home décor, a great addition to any space whether it be sophisticated and chic or more whimsical and relaxed.

It is a great style to go for if you are a D.I.Y enthusiast.  Whether you wish for a daring Ombre paint effect wall or just a few understated dip dyed scatter cushions, the look can be achieved, with a little creativity, from the comfort of your own home.  Tired and old pieces of furniture can be revived with this look, giving them a new lease of life; dipped chair legs or gradient painted drawers.  If you prefer not to go for the ‘home made’ look, various Ombre wallpapers are available, creating a bold yet more polished, chic statement.

The Ombre trend within the home is not for the faint hearted.  To embrace it you must brave enough to challenge the norm, that said, the look can be as bold and outrageous or as subtle as you like depending on personal preference.  The options and applications for the Ombre look in the home are boundless and the trend doesn’t look to be going anywhere for a while so why not be brave and give it a go!
