African Influences

African design styles and influences are commonly used in holiday homes, villas and hotel rooms across the world.  This year the trend has been showcasing closer to home, as designers take advantage of this distinctive trend which lends spark and character, exotic yet sophisticated look that can be applied to any modern residence.

Animal imitations, geometric shapes, tribal masks, crafted dark wood and graffiti are just a few of many different elements that can be incorporated into an interior to give it the African feel.  Bold colours and patterns play a big part in this culture and also hold symbolic meanings.  Although this philosophy has been somewhat diluted over time, the use of mixed motifs and textures in a design can bring feelings of peace and harmony along with a natural rustic ambiance.

Enhancing your home with influences and natural elements of African design, whether a single item to a full on safari look, combines comfort, style and culture to create a dramatic interior.

Pattern Clash

Pattern clash your home this autumn with a fashion trend that's in right now and beginning to seep through into the interior design world.

Spots, checks, stripes, zigzags and floral are just a few of the many options that can be placed together to create unusual but unique interiors spaces.  Bringing personality, individuality and character to a room to deliberately clash and spice up a space that little bit more.

There are many ways to introduce this current trend into your home and how to do it is entirely up to you.  Stay safe, by choosing one or two smaller elements to focus on such as window coverings, pillows and other small accessories.  Be adventurous and use larger mismatched patterns on main furniture such as sofas and carpets, whilst maintaining with the colour scheme.  Or just go for the entirety of a room to create the ultimate maximum impact.

From vintage to contemporary, shabby chic or retro, pattern clashes can be incorporated into just about any style there is out there. This is your chance to have fun, experiment and explore with as many different styles, patterns and colours that you can.

Whoever said interiors had to be serious???
